Versa organizes its credentials into Associate, Specialist, and Professional tiers. The Associate level establishes a baseline understanding of SD-WAN concepts and basic provisioning. The Specialist tier branches out, requiring deeper hands-on configuration skills in specific operational roles. The Professional tier targets advanced design and complex deployments.
Proving Foundational SD-WAN Skills
Most candidates enter the program through the VNX100 (Versa Certified SD-WAN Associate). The exam costs $100 and presents 60 multiple-choice questions over 90 minutes.
This credential validates your understanding of how Versa separates the control and data planes. The exam tests your knowledge of underlay and overlay networks, virtual routing and forwarding (VRF) isolation, and tunneling protocols like GRE and IPsec. You must also know how to execute zero-touch provisioning (ZTP) using URL-based and script-based methods to onboard new CPE devices. Versa recommends three to six months of hands-on experience before attempting the test.
Moving into Specialist Territory
Engineers with over a year of daily operational experience typically move on to the VNX301 (Versa Certified Administrator - SD-WAN Specialist). This exam runs 90 minutes, contains 60 questions, and costs $150.
The VNX301 moves past basic definitions and requires you to configure and troubleshoot live environments. It covers complex SD-WAN network topologies, advanced routing concepts, and the specifics of Versa Security Services. You must demonstrate the ability to configure next-generation firewall features, define traffic steering rules, and apply user-based access controls. The exam expects you to know how to navigate the Versa Director interface to manage policies across distributed enterprise branches.
Market Position and Career Value
A Versa certification does not carry the broad industry recognition of a Cisco CCNA. It serves a targeted purpose. If an enterprise uses Versa to replace legacy MPLS circuits or manage branch-to-cloud traffic, these certifications carry immediate weight with hiring managers.
As organizations consolidate their network and security vendors, the demand for engineers who understand unified SASE platforms continues to grow. Managing multi-tenant environments, tracking path performance, and deploying security policies from a single interface requires exact knowledge of how VOS handles traffic. Passing these exams proves you have that exact knowledge and can apply it without breaking production networks.
