Privacy policy

Examice is operated by Quaco LLC, 30 N Gould St, Ste N, Sheridan, WY 82801, USA. Quaco LLC is responsible for your personal data (the "controller", in the language of European data protection law). This policy applies to examice.com and to the emails we send. You can reach us about anything in this policy at hello@examice.com.

1. The data we collect

Your account

• Your email address.
• Your name, email address, and profile photo from Google, if you sign in with Google.
• Your nickname.
• Device and session information.

Your purchases

• The email address you give at checkout.
• What you bought.
• Payment details from Stripe. Stripe collects your card and billing details directly. We receive the status of your payment and limited payment details, such as the name, billing country, and card brand and last four digits that you gave Stripe.

Your study activity

Your activity on the exams you have paid for, such as the questions you viewed and your PDF downloads. We use it to provide the service, to understand how the product is used, and to assess refund requests under our refund policy and payment disputes.

Your comments and messages

• Your comments, replies, and upvotes.
• The messages you send us, including attachments.

Collected automatically

• Analytics. Pages viewed, the site that referred you, information about your browser and device, an approximate location based on your IP address, and actions on the site, including your searches. When you are signed in, this is linked to your account.
• Campaign and referral information. The campaign or website that brought you to Examice. If you create an account or buy within 30 days, we save it with your account or purchase.
• Server logs. Technical details of each request, such as your IP address, to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.

2. How we use your data, and our legal bases

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another place with similar laws, we must have a legal basis for each use of your data. These are our uses and the basis for each:

• To provide your account and the access you bought: signing you in, granting access, showing your purchases and receipts, running bundle credits, and sending the emails the service needs. Basis: performing our contract with you.
• To take payments and keep business records: processing payments through Stripe, handling refunds and disputes, and keeping accounting records. Basis: performing our contract, and our legal obligations.
• To answer your messages: support, refund claims, and data requests. Basis: performing our contract, and our legitimate interest in helping the people who contact us.
• To keep Examice secure: protecting accounts, preventing fraud and abuse, and investigating misuse such as account sharing or copying. Basis: our legitimate interest in protecting our users and our business.
• To understand and improve Examice: analytics, measuring which pages and offers work, and improving the question banks. Basis: our legitimate interest in running and improving our business.
• To send you reminder and offer emails: reminders when your access to an exam is ending or has ended, with offers to renew or upgrade; offers related to the exams you bought or viewed; and a reminder if you start a checkout and do not finish it, which can go to the email address you entered before checkout even if you do not have an account. Basis: our legitimate interest in telling customers and would-be customers about their access and our related products. You can opt out at any time with the one-click unsubscribe link in every one of these emails.
• To run the public discussion: displaying comments, counting votes, and moderating. Basis: our legitimate interest in providing a useful discussion, and performing our contract with you.
• To comply with the law and to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims. Basis: our legal obligations and legitimate interests.

3. Cookies and browser storage

• Sign-in cookies. These keep you signed in and protect the sign-in process. They are essential: without them you cannot sign in.
• An offer cookie (kept for 1 year). It keeps the offer you were shown the same each time you visit. If you have an account, we also save it on your account, so you see the same offer on every device.
• Campaign cookies (kept for 30 days). These remember which campaign or website brought you to Examice.

The site also keeps some convenience data in your browser, such as your recent searches.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Without the sign-in cookies, you cannot sign in.

We do not respond to "Do Not Track" signals.

4. Who we share data with

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

We share personal data with the service providers that help us run Examice:

• Stripe processes payments and provides receipts. Stripe is also an independent controller of payment data under its own privacy policy.
• Google provides Google sign-in and some of our email services.
• Our other service providers work for us in these categories: website hosting, database hosting, email delivery, analytics hosting, content delivery and backups, and AI services. They may use personal data only to provide their service to us.

We may also disclose personal data:

• if the law requires it, or in response to a valid legal request;
• to protect the rights, property, or safety of Examice, our users, or others, including to prevent fraud and to respond to payment disputes; and
• to a buyer or successor if Examice or Quaco LLC is sold, merged, or reorganised.

Your nickname, profile photo, comments, and replies are public. If you find content on Examice about you and want it removed, email us.

5. International transfers

Quaco LLC is a US company, and we and our service providers may process data in the United States and other countries. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, your data is therefore transferred to countries whose data protection laws may differ from yours.

For these transfers, we rely on the safeguards that our service providers offer, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses and the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where a provider is certified under it. You can ask us for more information about these safeguards.

6. How long we keep data

We keep personal data for as long as your account exists, and after that for as long as we need it for the purposes in section 2, including tax and accounting, refunds and disputes, and preventing fraud and abuse. When you delete your account, your comments stay visible under "Deleted user", and if you ask us, we will erase or anonymise the data we do not need to keep. Deleted data may remain in our backups until those backups are replaced.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

• get a copy of the personal data we hold about you, and receive it in a portable format;
• have inaccurate data corrected;
• have your data erased;
• object to, or ask us to restrict, how we use your data, including for direct marketing; and
• withdraw consent where we rely on it, without affecting what we did before.

You can unsubscribe from reminder and offer emails with the link in any of them, and delete your account in your account settings.

To make a request, email hello@examice.com from the email address on your account. If you write from a different address, we may need to confirm your identity first. We may keep data that the law requires us to keep.

European Economic Area and United Kingdom. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

United States. Some US states give their residents rights to know, access, correct, and delete their personal data, and to opt out of its sale, of targeted advertising, and of certain profiling. We do not sell personal data or use it for targeted advertising. You can make the other requests as described above, and we will not treat you differently for making one. If a request is refused, you can reply to ask us to reconsider it.

8. Children

Examice is not intended for children. You must be at least 16 to use it, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone younger. If you believe that a child under 16 has given us personal data, email us and we will delete it.

9. Changes to this policy

We will post the new version of this policy on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
