In a 3-stage Clos IP fabric, also known as a spine-leaf architecture, the leaf nodes (servers and top-of-rack switches) connect only to the spine nodes (aggregation or core switches). There are no direct physical connections between leaf nodes themselves. This design ensures that all traffic between leaf nodes passes through the spine layer, facilitating efficient data transfer and easy scalability.

The problem resides in the BGP family configuration. The EVPN NLRI family declaration should be applied under the overlay BGP group to correctly signal EVPN routes. Without this declaration, the BGP sessions will not properly exchange EVPN routes. Moving the EVPN NLRI family declaration to the overlay group will ensure that EVPN signaling is correctly configured, allowing the routes to be properly exchanged.

The exhibit shows two layers of switches, which consist of spine switches and top-of-rack (ToR) switches. This represents a collapsed fabric architecture, where normally a larger number of spine and leaf switches would be utilized in a full 3-stage or 5-stage Clos network fabric. The ToR switches connecting directly to both spine switches simplify the architecture. This configuration allows for some of the benefits of a full fabric but in a more compact, collapsed form, making it suitable for smaller-scale deployments.
