Exam ACSA Question 18

Spanning tree runs on the switches shown in the exhibit. The network administrator enters these two commands:

Switch-1(config)# spanning-tree priority 0

Switch-2(config)# spanning-tree priority 1

The other switches use the default spanning tree priorities. The administrator enters the show spanning-tree command on Switch-2.

If the configuration is correct, which roles will the output show?

Show Answer
Correct Answer: A

With the given Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) configuration, Switch-1 becomes the root bridge because it has the lowest priority (priority 0). Switch-2, having the next lowest priority (priority 1), will not be the root. Switch-2 would have its port A1 as the designated port because it is closest to the root bridge (Switch-1) via the direct connection. Port A2 would be an alternate port because it provides a redundant path to the root bridge through Switch-3. Port A3 would also be an alternate port, providing another redundant path to the root bridge through Switch-4. Therefore, the output on Switch-2 should show roles as A1 = Designated, A2 = Alternate, A3 = Alternate.

Designated = STP Alternate = MSTP Question is about STP and Switch 1 is root due to priority 0 command

The correct answer is B because the definition of alternate ports is given in the access layer, for the given example, this would be seen in switches 3 and 4.
