HPE0-V14 Exam - Question 47

You have configured a port on an HPE FlexFabric 5900 series switch that is connected to a VMware ESXi server to support multiple VLANs.

Exam HPE0-V14 Question 47

Given the configuration above, what should happen to any of the untagged traffic coming from the VMware ESXi host?

Show Answer
Correct Answer: C

The configuration of the HPE FlexFabric 5900 series switch port uses the command 'port trunk pvid vlan 50', which sets the Port VLAN ID (PVID) to 50. This means that any untagged traffic arriving at the port will be tagged with VLAN ID 50. Therefore, untagged traffic coming from the VMware ESXi host will be transmitted in VLAN 50.

Since the main purpose of the PVID is for VLAN-unaware devices, it is anticipated that frames exiting the port should be Un-Tagged. If the port connects VLAN-aware devices, then the user can edit the VLAN and return the setting to Tagged, causing the port to egress tagged frames for the VLAN. All frames within the switch are tagged. Port-based VLANs are implemented by PVID settings. Untagged frames arriving at a port are tagged with the VLAN ID specified by the PVID of the port. + C. The untagged traffic will be transmitted in vlan 50.
