Where must the mail server settings be configured to resolve this issue?
To enable email notifications for alarms, the mail server settings must be configured in the vCenter Server General settings under the vSphere Client. This is where you specify the SMTP server and mail sender information, which are necessary for sending out email alerts. Thus, the correct location to resolve the issue is in the vCenter Server General settings.
Given answer is correct. As mentioned by benycom: Select Vcenter on configure tab, under Settings select General - Mail: Set: Mail server and Mail sender https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/7.0/com.vmware.vsphere.vcenter.configuration.doc/GUID-467DA288-7844-48F5-BB44-99DE6F6160A4.html
Select Vcenter on configure tab, under Settings select General: Mail -Mail server -Mail sender
There is missing configuration of SMTP server, so procedure is according link below https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/7.0/com.vmware.vsphere.vcenter.configuration.doc/GUID-467DA288-7844-48F5-BB44-99DE6F6160A4.html
This screen is in Alarm Definitions, step 2 - email notifications
Yeah but its failin because no smtp mail server is configured. you don't configure that in the alarm but in vCenter General settings!
