Question 30

A customer wants to use ECMP to provide additional throughput and availability for their critical business applications. Some applications require load balancing for scale and availability.

Which two Edge design choices can an architect present to the customer? (Choose two.)

    Correct Answer: C, E

For ECMP (Equal-Cost Multi-Path), the Tier-0 gateway must be configured in Active/Active mode to utilize the additional throughput and availability provided by ECMP. Thus, having a Tier-0 gateway in Active/Standby mode would not fulfill the ECMP requirement. Therefore, creating a Tier-0 gateway in Active/Active mode and a Tier-1 gateway in Active/Standby mode meets the needs of additional throughput and high availability. Additionally, load balancing services can only be configured on the Tier-1 gateway. Hence, configuring ECMP on the Tier-0 gateway and load balancing on the Tier-1 gateway achieves both the load balancing and ECMP objectives. Therefore, the best choices are to create a Tier-0 gateway in Active/Active mode and a Tier-1 gateway in Active/Standby mode and to configure ECMP on the Tier-0 gateway while load balancing on the Tier-1 gateway.

The correct answer is C & E. Let's break this down as follows: A is wrong because for ECMP to work, T0 needs to be configured in Active-Active. For the same reason, option D is also wrong. E is correct because load balancer can be configured only on Tier-1 gateway and ECMP can be only enabled on Tier-0. C is correct because it talks about Tier-0 in A-A. The only doubt I have here is Tier-1 inherits its state from Tier-0 it is connecting to. So if a Tier-0 is in A-A, how can be connecting Tier-1 be in A-S topology.

The T1 does not need to be connected to T0, it can be configured as one arm.

Correct answer are C&E - ECMP routing is only available on Tier-0 gateways. (Take from NSX-T ICM 3.0 Lecture Manual - ECMP Routing Section) Also you can configure high availability on the gateways for redundancy. HA ca be configured in Active-Active or Active-Pasive. - Active-Active: * All the edge nodes are active and run the gateway services simultaneously. * The workload is distributed between all nodes to preven overloading one single node. (Take from NSX-T ICM 3.0 Lecture Manual - Configure High Availability Section) -Active-Stanby: * One edge node is active, and the other edge nodes reamin on stanby * The stanby nodes are used as backup nodes * One of the standby nodes take over when the active node becomes unavailable On the other hand, the Load Balancer must be attached to a Tier-1 Gateway. (Take from NSX-T ICM 3.0 Lecture Manual - Load Balancer Architecture - Section)

C E correct Not B. T0 must be Active/Standby mod to run stateful services like load balancer Not D. T0 in Active/Standby mode will not provide the performance needed
