2v0-2123 Exam - Question 79

An administrator plans to bring VMware vCenter offline in order to perform hardware mainte-nance on the host where the vCenter Server Appliance is running.

Which vSphere feature must be configured to ensure that vCenter users experience minimal downtime?

Show Answer
Correct Answer: C

The correct feature to ensure minimal downtime for vCenter users when the vCenter Server Appliance must be brought offline is vCenter Server High Availability. vCenter Server High Availability (HA) provides a 3-node cluster comprised of an Active, Passive, and Witness node, ensuring continuity of service through automatic failover in case of maintenance or hardware failure. It minimizes downtime by synchronizing state and data between the Active and Passive nodes.

stupid question. Who will want to shut down VC for host maintenance? In real life you will enable maint. mode and wait for DRS to migrate VC machine without shutting down.

With DRS if you put the host in maintanance mode it will migrate the VM to the other host without downtime right ? With HA there will be downtime.

You mentioned HA... This IS NOT JUST HA, it is more specifically vCenter SERVER high availability. The answer is C.

vCenter HA protects the vCenter Server Appliance (VCSA) against Host and hardware failure, as well as reduce downtime due to VCSA patching. After configuring your network for vCenter HA, you implement a 3-node cluster comprised of Active, Passive, and Witness nodes. ▪ The Active node – Uses the active vCenter – Contains the public IP – Uses the vCenter HA network to replicate data to the Passive node – Uses the vCenter HA network to communicate with the Witness node ▪ The Passive node – Is initially a clone of the Active node – Receives updates from and synchronizes state with the Active node – Automatically takes over Active node roll in event of a failure ▪ The Witness node is solely a lightweight clone of the Active node protecting against a split-brain scenario
