5V0-22.21 Exam - Question 30

A customer is running a number of compute-intensive application workloads on their existing 4-node vSAN cluster that has resulted in resource contention. To provide additional compute resources, the vSAN administrator has decided to deploy a new 4-node vSAN compute-only cluster so that a HCI Mesh can be configured.

Which three points would the vSAN administrator need to consider before using this configuration? (Choose three.)

Show Answer
Correct Answer: ADF

When deploying a new 4-node vSAN compute-only cluster and configuring HCI Mesh, the vSAN administrator must consider the following points: The storage policy must be based on the number of hosts within the server cluster, as the data protection and fault tolerance are dependent on the storage resources in that cluster. A storage policy of Mirroring with FTT=1 would be supported in this scenario since it only requires a minimum of 3 hosts. Using Erasure Coding with FTT=1 could also be supported, but policies with FTT=2 require more hosts than are available in a 4-node cluster, thus it is not supported. This ensures that the compute and storage resources are allocated effectively without exceeding the cluster's capabilities.

One of the most interesting capabilities, as it relates to HCI Mesh, is the integration with storage policies. When defining a storage policy, an administrator will be able to define the types of data services they are interested in (such as Deduplication and Compression, or Data-at-rest Encryption), and the storage policy wizard will filter out the available datastores that meet that criteria https://core.vmware.com/resource/vmware-vsan-hci-mesh#section2

DEF is correct. FTT=2 is not supported with 4-node server cluster. Storage Policy Support: A policy being supported is limited based on the cluster storing the data and not the client cluster. (e.g. A VM using FTT=2 via RAID-6 must be using capacity from a cluster that is 6 hosts or larger.) vSAN 7 Update 2 includes support for adding cluster data services or cluster type to the filtering.
