Question 27

What are two characteristics of a durability component in vSAN? (Choose two.)

    Correct Answer: B, E

A durability component in vSAN primarily ensures better availability and faster resynchronization. This component provides improved availability by creating redundant copies of data to protect against failures, ensuring that data remains accessible even if some components fail. Additionally, durability components enable faster resynchronization by committing all new write IOs to them, thereby speeding up the process of bringing the system back to a consistent state after maintenance or failures.

They provide better availability to vSAN. Durability components were introduced in vSAN 7.0 Update 1 and provided a mechanism to maintain the required availability for VMs while doing maintenance. That meaning that when you would place a host into maintenance mode new “durability components” would be created for the components which were stored on that host. This would then allow all the new VM I/O to be committed to the existing component, as well as the durability component. Starting with vSAN 7.0 Update 2, vSAN also uses these durability components in situations where a host failure has occurred 12. They improve resync times. Durability components are used to commit all new write IO to. This will allow vSAN to resync fast after maintenance mode, and enhances durability as we would still have 2 copies of the (new) data 3.

D. Better Storage utilization: Durability components help ensure data is distributed and stored efficiently within the vSAN cluster, leading to better storage utilization. E. Better Availability: Durability components contribute to the availability of data by providing redundancy and protection against failures. Options A, B, and C are not directly related to durability components:
