Question 46

If you need to run a script to stop a service in order to get an application-consistent backup on a Windows server, where can the script be run?

    Correct Answer: A

To ensure an application-consistent backup on a Windows server by stopping a service, the script should be run within the VM itself. One effective method is to use a pre-freeze script under the guest processing settings of the job by enabling application-aware processing. This approach allows the script to run inside the VM, ensuring that the application is properly quiesced before the backup begins, thereby achieving the desired state for the backup process.

There is also a Script tab after Guest Processing > Applications (check Enable App aware processing) > Edit and Scripts Tab. The difference between both scripts tabs are that the Application Aware Processing one runs the script inside the VM, meanwhile the Storage > Advanced > Scripts tab runs in the Backup Server, not the use we need for this question
