An oral temperature of 101F (38.3C) on the third day after delivery is abnormal. While a slight increase in temperature might occur shortly after delivery due to exertion and dehydration, a temperature above 100.4F (38C) at this stage suggests a potential infectious process and warrants further investigation. Other findings such as chills shortly after delivery, a pulse rate of 60 bpm in the morning on the first postdelivery day, and urinary output of 3000 mL on the second day after delivery are within normal limits and do not generally indicate any complications.
