TDS-C01 Exam - Question 2

Which statement accurately describes aliases?

Show Answer
Correct Answer: A

You can assign an alias to a field member before creating a visualization. Aliases are used to provide alternate names for field members, making the data easier to understand in visualizations. They do not change the actual data in the database, and they are typically applied to discrete dimensions, not measures. Therefore, this is the explanation for why the correct answer is option A.

surly the true answer is A 99.99% i tried all options in tableau and not working so A is the only correct statement

C is correct, only for dimensions according to Tableau official documentation.

Nope. Only for "discrete" dimensions according to Tableau's official documentation.

Tableau Help Document - You can create aliases (alternate names) for members in a dimension so that their labels appear differently in the view. Aliases can be created for the members of discrete dimensions only. They cannot be created for continuous dimensions, dates, or measures. Thats why B,C,D are incorrect answers. A is correct whereas you can create alias to a field even after using the same field in the Viz.

Aliases only work for Discrete fields and it definitely changes nothing in the database.

B is definitely wrong and C & D are just simply messed up with the wording of discrete dimension and continuous measure

I realize C says "Discrete Measure". Aliases only apply to Dimensions not measures so the most likely answer would be A (you can assign aliases before creating a visual.. doesn't matter when you assign them essentially)

CORRECT: CAN BE A OR B You can create aliases (alternate names) for members in a dimension so that their labels appear differently in the view. INCORRECT: CD NOT C BECAUSE :discrete measure NOT D BECAUSE : continuous dimension. Aliases can be created for the members of discrete dimensions only. They cannot be created for continuous dimensions, dates, or measures

Alias is only available for discrete dimensions. So C and D are wrong. B is wrong because it doesn't change the real database. So the answer is A.

Changing alias is only applicable for either dimension or combination of (Dimension/discrete). Option A is valid in this case

A is correct, because allises can only be used for discrete dimension. On top of that, it changes how the value is shown in the visualisation, rather than changing the value in the database.

A is correct but C is not because in option C they are saying discrete measures which means when a measure is pulled in Viz as discrete (blue pill) then it acts as a discrete dimension but it is actually a measure. We cannot assign aliases to measures.

Aliases can only be created for descrete dimensions. It can be assigned before and after creating a visualisation. remember changes to data in tableau do not affect underlying data in the data base. hence A
