PRINCE2-Practitioner Exam - Question 274

During stage 3 the project manager authorizes the work package for the 'marketed courses'. The project manager and internal marketing team manager agreed that the course should be marketed in a minimum of three trade magazines, and a maximum of five, by the end of stage 3.

Which principle is being applied, and why?

Show Answer
Correct Answer: A

The principle 'Manage by exception' is being applied because the project manager is setting tolerances for the scope of the products to be delivered. By specifying that the course should be marketed in a minimum of three trade magazines and a maximum of five, the project manager is establishing clear boundaries for what is considered acceptable performance. This allows the team to work independently within those limits and only escalate issues if they fall outside of the defined parameters, which is the essence of managing by exception.

this is a trick question. If you look at table 12.1, there is only one scope example mentioned in the book mentionend as a tolerance for scope and that is Moscow. So this is in my opinion not about the tolerances but about the defined roles and responsitiblities. That makes C the correct answer.

Is option A the most appropriate as it focuses on the principle of "manage by exception", highlighting the importance of establishing clear tolerances for the scope of products to be delivered?
