PMP Exam - Question 583

A project manager is assigned to a project that is in development. As the project manager reviews the project's progress, they find a few tasks that are behind schedule. After investigating, the project manager discovers that a few team members were pulled to work on other assignments, which impacted their ability to focus on the project manager's project.

Which two actions can the project manager take to bring the team back on track? (Choose two.)

Show Answer
Correct Answer: DE

The project manager should discuss the risk of project delay and work priorities with the respective functional managers who assigned the team members to other assignments. This can help reallocate resources and establish clear priorities. Additionally, working with the team to identify options to accelerate project delivery can help create a plan to recover lost time and bring the project back on track. These actions address both resource alignment and potential acceleration strategies, directly tackling the issue of delayed tasks.

By establishing daily standups, the project manager can ensure that the team is making progress and identify any potential roadblocks. This will allow the project manager to address issues in a timely manner and ensure that the team is on track to complete the project. Discussing the risk of project delay and work priorities with the respective functional managers can also help to bring the team back on track. By communicating with the managers, the project manager can identify if the team members will be available to work on the project and if there are any conflicting priorities that need to be addressed. This will help to ensure that the team has the resources they need to complete the project on time.

A daily standup is usually agile specific, this doesn't really specify that its agile or that would be a better answer. A daily standup could cause a lot of issues in a predictive environment like say, construction or something. Imagine you're a construction worker who has to drive to a meeting/connect a computer every day, wait for everyone to get in, hope it goes as planned, then get back into your headspace of working on a task. They can be counterproductive if there isn't a constant need for them.

If it was agile then AE would be my choice. In predictive, DE is the choice.
