Question 556

A project team is engaging a development team in another country to develop software. During progress reviews, the project manager identified completion date delays due to rework because there were different interpretations of the client's needs.

What should the project manager do?

    Correct Answer: A

The most effective step a project manager can take when there are different interpretations of the client's needs is to set up a meeting with key stakeholders to clarify requirements. This will ensure that all parties have a common understanding of the project's objectives and reduce the likelihood of further rework and delays. Clear communication and alignment of the requirements with the stakeholders will help to prevent misinterpretations in the future.

Discussion
rajeshtkOption: A

I think the answer is A. This question is talking about the unclarity of the requirement. So the best option is to clarify the requirement with stake holders. If you go with answer D, again rework may be expected on the prototype until the requirement is clear and all are on the same page.

Bobbie30

I agree with you. I believe A is the answer because speaking with the stakeholders will clear the confusion

dinodragon

Ideally it would be A but with the statement, "development team in another country," my guess is that the development team did not understand the requirements clearly so with dev team creating prototypes, it would be easier to confirm the understanding.

aishOption: D

The question mentions PM has observed this issue in "progress reviews". So, it has happened multiple times. If the scenario involves delays due to different interpretations of client needs during progress reviews, then the need for a consistent practice like preparing prototypes becomes even more important.

Jamrock

in this situation your prototype will only confirm what you already know. it will be wrong because of "different interpretations".

nemm235

according to my understanding - (because there were different interpretations of the client's needs) client gave requirement to team but development team wrongly interpret. so best option is create prototype.

RevZig67Option: A

The delays in completion date indicate a problem with requirements interpretation. Clarifying requirements can help to prevent this kind of problem from happening in the future. The project manager should bring together key stakeholders from both teams to review the requirements and ensure everyone is on the same page. This can help to prevent further rework and schedule delays.

PMPStudentOption: A

I will go with A. Rework only happens when you do not satisfy client needs and requirements. Since there are different interpretations of client's needs, it is best to meet with the client and clear it for once and all. This will remove the confusion all teams will work towards the same requirements/goals.

Jaya12Option: D

Option D takes a more practical and visual approach that directly demonstrates the software functionalities, potentially aiding in faster alignment and reducing the chances of misinterpretation or rework.

JYKL88Option: A

Why D? They are reworking already due to diff interpretation. Yet still need to do a prototype? Waste of time and resources. Shld clarify the requirement immediately to avoid further rework and delay. Answer is A

MusaadOption: A

since customer knows what he wants, why create prototype? I think A is correct

certificate988Option: B

'identified completion date delays due to rework because there were different interpretations of the client's needs' highlight delay and interpretations are clarified and so, rework is decided/ongoing. In that case, what clarification is needed with customer. There is only one impact which is delay in schedule and only option here is to escalate.

certificate988

correction: there is not mention of schedule issue in the ques, so that may not be focus. In such action should be to clarify future requirements to avoid re-work and further impact on schedule. So, better option is A

reaganFF

Agree with your correction. "Escalating to the steering committee" is rarely the right answer.

Only12goOption: A

rework menaing thye already have examples and still disagree so go to the source for clarification with all involved.

David983Option: D

Prototypes is the correct tool to clarify well the requirements.

victory108Option: A

A. Set up a meeting with key stakeholders to clarify requirements

aishOption: D

Option D- Starting with creating prototypes (option D) and following up with a meeting with key stakeholders (option A) to ensure that the prototypes accurately reflect their expectations could lead to the best outcomes.

emelbaOption: D

D is right, because A says "KEY stakeholders".....

lannt307Option: D

I think D is correct. Because, keyword: rework because there were "different interpretations" (in team). I think requirement from client is still clear.

aqz_111

'Different interpretation', then why not to get the answer from the client? so A is better
