Question 35

You are a system administrator and responsible for a NetApp AFF A800 2-node ONTAP 9.8 cluster that is used only for SAN. Your SAN uses FC and FCoE on the same Cisco switches. You want to add NVMe from the ONTAP controller to the same Cisco fabric.

Which two statements are correct in this scenario? (Choose two.)

    Correct Answer: A, D

FC and NVMe can share the same 32 Gb physical port, allowing efficient utilization of high-speed network resources. FCoE and NVMe can also share the same physical port, as both can use the same underlying Ethernet infrastructure. This flexibility is a key benefit of using these technologies in the same Cisco fabric.

Beginning with ONTAP 9.8, it is not necessary to remove other protocols when adding NVMe. https://docs.netapp.com/us-en/ontap/san-admin/configure-svm-nvme-task.html

https://docs.netapp.com/us-en/ontap/san-config/zoning-restrictions-cisco-fc-fcoe-switches-reference.html Multiple LIFs for the FC and FCoE protocols, can share physical ports on a node as long as they are in different zones. FC-NVMe and FCoE cannot share the same physical port. FC and FC-NVMe can share the same 32 Gb physical port. Cisco FC and FCoE switches require each LIF on a given port to be in a separate zone from the other LIFs on that port. A single zone can have both FC and FCoE LIFs. A zone can contain a LIF from every target port in the cluster, but be careful to not exceed the host’s path limits and verify the SLM configuration. LIFs on different physical ports can be in the same zone. Cisco switches require that LIFs be separated. Though not required, separating LIFs is recommended for all switches

A&B.. FC and FC-NVMe can share the same 32 Gb physical port. The same SVM can serve both FC and NVMe protocols using the same physical infrastructure with different LIFs FCoE and NVMe can NOT share the same infrastructure, they go through different physical hardware https://docs.netapp.com/ontap-9/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.netapp.doc.dot-cm-sanconf%2FGUID-7D5EA321-97AE-497D-9925-BEF2553DF9F1.html
