You have a shared image gallery that contains the Windows 10 images shown in the following table.

Exam AZ-140 Question 32

You create an Azure Virtual Desktop deployment that has the following settings:

Host pool name: Pool1 -

Exam AZ-140 Question 32

✑ Location: West US

✑ Host pool type: Personal

Which images can you use for the session hosts?

Show Answer
Correct Answer: A

To use an image for session hosts in an Azure Virtual Desktop deployment, the image needs to be both generalized and located in the same region as the session hosts. In this case, the deployment is in the West US region. Therefore, only images that are generalized and located in West US can be used. Among the images listed, only Image1 meets these criteria.

Image 1 only, as the image should be available in the region where VMs are hosted

E. Nobody has offered any links supporting the claims that you must use images from the same location of the VM you want to deploy. Azure Compute Gallery - formerly known as Shared Image Gallery - lets you share your custom VM images with others in your organization, within or across regions, within a Microsoft Entra tenant, or publicly using a community gallery. Choose which images you want to share, which regions you want to make them available in, and who you want to share them with. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/image-version?tabs=portal%2Ccli2

The correct answer is E When creating an image maybe you are restricted to a region but you can replicate the image to other regions later See step 16 from "Create an image" in this article : https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/image-version?tabs=portal%2Ccli2#create-an-image which states that: "In Region, select the region where you want the image created. In some cases, the source must be in the same region where the image is created. If you aren't seeing your source listed in later drop-downs, try changing the region for the image. You can always replicate the image to other regions later."

There is no mention in the question of image replication configuration, so we cannot assume that the image is replicating to the West US region.

Answer A is correct. Do the lab, when trying to use an image from another region it says "the selected image is not available in your location". If loading a specialized image it says: "image must be generalized".

Selected Answer: E Images are stored in a shared image gallery: Shared Image Gallery enables us to build all our VM images from a single Azure DevOps pipeline and to deploy IaaS VMs from these images in any subscription in any tenant in any region, without the added complexity of managing and distributing copies of managed images or VHDs across multiple subscriptions or regions. Only problem is that image need to be replicated to that region where you are building VM. I didn`t see anywhere that it would be mentioned. So I would say that E is wrong.

or your Azure Virtual Desktop deployment in the West US location, you can use images that are located in West US and are either generalized or specialized. Based on the table: Image1 (West US, Generalized) Image2 (West US, Specialized) Therefore, the correct answer is D. Image1 and Image2 only. Yes, even if Image2 is specialized, it can still be used for the session hosts in your Azure Virtual Desktop deployment. Both generalized and specialized images located in the West US region are suitable for your deployment. So, the correct answer remains D. Image1 and Image2 only. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/vm-specialized-image-version

I’m going to go against the grain and pick D. I agree that you can only deploy from local images, but I don’t see a restriction on image type - typically should be generalized, but specialized would work.

So you mean, is the answer D (image 1 and 2) correct? According to the URL, "There are two operating system states supported by Azure Compute Gallery. Typically images require that the VM used to create the image has been generalized before taking the image(...) This means that specialized images will have some limitations in addition to some benefits." So, Microsoft says both specialized and generalized images are supported. I guess the answer D is correct.

this one is really tricky. If you read the documentation the correct answer would be D, because you must use images from the same location of the VM you want to deploy and you can use both generalized and specialized OS. BUT if you need to apply the principle of "minimize the administrative effort" the correct answer would be A, because you don't have to sysprep the host in order to change the machine name.

MagisOption: D

I am voting for option D. - VM can be deployed from the image that exist in the same region. Note from MS doc: While the replication is happening, you can view the status of replication per region. Once the image replication is complete in a region, you can then deploy a VM or scale-set using that resource in the region. In this case there is no information that replication would be setup between mentioned regions. So we can use images that exist in the same region as pool is. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/azure-compute-gallery - There is no limitation which Operating system state type to use. In Personal pool it would be make sense more to use Generalize image type but we can use both.

Asnwer is correct... it should be only Generalized images. Host pool and VMs doesnt need to be in the same region. ChatGPT says this: While it is possible to set up Azure Virtual Desktop deployments where the master image and session hosts are in different regions, doing so might introduce additional network latency and potential performance issues. If you have specific requirements that necessitate having resources in different regions, you should carefully consider the potential impact on user experience and performance.

read the question again and I will choose A since it can be used DIRECTLY without any other effort. Reason is: If it is specilized, then you still can use the image but need sysprep it . When spinning up a pool, you can only use images in the same region. For example you can't create a VM in US east if the image is in US East 2. Its easy to replicate the imiges through. NOW, even though the pool might be in region A, you can deploy session hosts in other regions, assuming the image is replicated there. This would not be ideal untless they were located geographically close as AVD does not have any type of affinity.
