AZ-303 Exam - Question 89

You have Azure virtual machines that have Update Management enabled. The virtual machines are configured as shown in the following table.

You need to ensure that all critical and security updates are applied to each virtual machine every month.

What is the minimum number of update deployments you should create?

Show Answer
Correct Answer: C

To ensure that all critical and security updates are applied monthly to the virtual machines, you only need to create two update deployments: one for Windows machines and one for Linux machines. Update Management in Azure allows you to group machines by their operating system for patching purposes, so having separate deployments for each type of operating system (Windows and Linux) is sufficient. There is no need for separate deployments for different Linux distributions unless they have specific and unique patching requirements, which is not specified in the problem statement. Therefore, two deployments will cover all listed virtual machines effectively.

“ VMs created from the on-demand Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) images that are available in Azure Marketplace are registered to access the Red Hat Update Infrastructure (RHUI) that's deployed in Azure. Any other Linux distribution must be updated from the distribution's online file repository by using methods supported by the distribution.” quote from the posted doc.

total 4 as given 1 for windows because it's MS updates 3 for each OS. RHEL has it's own repo and so the other Linux OSs. Since each Linux OS has it's own repo the deployment will be different on how you pull the updates. I have derived image build from the markeplace images and the builds are different for Linux.

Do we not have to create a deployment for each resource group separately? So, for each resource group, 1 for Windows, 1 for Linux. Therefore, total 4?

I tested in Azure. I created an "automation" from marketplace and added a log analytics workplace. As soon as I tried to create an update deployment, the 2nd question (after the Name) was a radio button to choose "Windows" OR "Linux" operating systems. Other part of the "form" changes based on what OS do you choose. I have no clue about the Linux distributions needs separated update deployments or not. One of the Linux version is somewhat different and the other 2 have same requirements, but then it would be 3, which is not an option. My guess is: C - 2
