Answers are correct. Label is applied only for Sharepoint ..based on which only File 1 will be deleted as the date creation exceeds 7yrs retention

agreed that file 1 is the only 1 that would apply in this scenario. However, the status says "enabled pending" and I would think that means the policy might not have been applied to the file yet. Doesn't that mean that the file is not going to be deleted yet?

Good observation @daavidsc400. The question asks what will happen when you turn on the policy, which would then trigger the conditions. The key to the answer for this question is the locations, which is only SharePoint Sites as @Deepak9826 stated.

I always show your comments. So I understand that the policy is not currently in effect because it says "enabled pending". So the answer to box 1 is NO correct?

No, the question is asking what will happen when the policy is turned ON, not what is happening currently while the policy is pending. So the answer is YNN

Every file is older than 7 years, so everything would be deleted, except it only applies to SharePoint sites (and this does NOT include OneDrive sites) Answer: Y, N, N

Right answer. the retention policy is scoped to sharepoint sites only not to ondrive accounts and Exchange online. Further the duration between modification date and creation date of files should be 7 years in order files be deleted referencing to policy settings.

The status of the policy says enabled pending. Doesn't that mean that the policy hasn't completely sync'd to all locations and been applied? If that's the case, no files are going to be deleted right away when the policy is turned on.

Since the status of the retention policy says Pending, I think BOX 1 is NO.

Mar 22, 2025

The question is about what will happen AFTER you turn ON the policy. So you can ignore the pending status.

Ahh, tricky one! So, if the policy would have been just "Enabled" the correct answer is indeed Y/N/N. But since it shows "Enabled (Pending)" it means that it has not yet fully applied to the location/s and hence even though the way is configured should delete File1, since it's pending it's not 100% guaranteed that this will happen, however, the pending state theoretically should only take a "not so long" amount of time - maybe few hours - 1 day at most and then the Retention policy is good successful. So what should we pick??? :)) Very tricky... It could be that for this question when they create the lab for it, the policy was still pending and the intended answer is Y / N / N, or it may not and in fact should be N / N / N. Too ambiguous tbh.

N, N, Y File1 will be deleted after you turn on the policy. (No) File2 will be deleted after you turn on the policy. (No) File3 will be deleted after you turn on the policy. (Yes) Retention Policy: The policy is configured to delete content if it is older than 7 years, with the retention period starting from the creation date of each file. File1 was created on December 28, 2011, meaning that as of January 1, 2021, it is 9 years old. However, because it is stored in a SharePoint site, it will not be deleted immediately upon enabling the policy. File2 was created on January 2, 2011, making it 10 years old. However, because it is stored in OneDrive, it will not be deleted immediately upon enabling the policy. File3 was created on May 1, 2006, making it over 14 years old. Since it is stored in an Exchange Online public folder, it will be deleted as soon as the policy is activated.

YNN Policy here applies only to SharePoint and not to the other locations
