70-778 Exam - Question 42

You have two Microsoft SQL Server database servers named SQLProd and SQLDev. SQLDev contains the same tables as SQLProd, but only a subset of the data in SQLProd.

You create a new Power BI Desktop model that uses 120 tables from SQLDev.

You plan to publish the Power BI file to the Power BI service.

You need to connect the model to the tables in SQLProd. The solution must minimize administrative effort.

What should you do from Query Editor before you publish the model?

Show Answer
Correct Answer: C

To connect the model to the tables in SQLProd from SQLDev while minimizing administrative effort, you should configure the Data source settings in the Query Editor. This allows you to change the data source server name globally for all tables at once, rather than individually editing each table query which would be more time-consuming and labor-intensive.

D will work, but C will be easier to do.

Ans should be C, as the Question explicitly asks to minimize effort.

clearly mention in the question last point "What should you do from Query Editor before you publish the model"? So answer is correct D

You can change the datasource settings from the Query Editor, so I go for C

I'm confused as both C & D are correct "Technically". C implies that you can go to File > Options and settings > Options then select the DataSource. Whereas D is saying Query Editor > Select the table > Change the Data Source from there. But then again you can just go in to the Query Editor > go to the first step of the query which is always "Source" and change it there instead of going through 120 tables and changing those sources... https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Desktop/How-to-replace-Data-Source-for-existing-report/td-p/58947#:~:text=%40ivyhai%20In%20power%20bi%20desktop,data%20sources%20and%20chnage%20source. The Applied Steps: Query Editor > SE

Exactly because it literally asks you what should you do FROM Query editor. Query editor >> Query Settings >> Source >> Advance Editor >> edit the code from there....

C is correct

I'm leaning toward C also. The question specifically says, "The solution must minimize administrative effort." Changing 120 settings does not minimize effort. The question also says, "You have two Microsoft SQL Server database servers . . .". We don't have vendor incompatability here either. Did we miss something? Also, the reference link actually says, "After you create a Power BI Desktop file with an explore live connection, there might be some cases where you want to switch the connection to a different server. For example, if you created your Power BI Desktop file when connecting to a development server, and before publishing to the Power BI service, you want to switch the connection to production server." So again, what did we miss?

And you can change from oracle to sql server https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-gateway-data-sources

Holly Molly... I feel that the answer I got given would make it MORE admin work... it's 120 tables?!?!?!

Even the referenced link doesn't confirm the answer. For example, if you created your Power BI Desktop file when connecting to a development server, and before publishing to the Power BI service, you want to switch the connection to production server. To change the server name: Select Edit Queries from the Home tab. In the SQL Server Analysis Services database window, enter the new Server name, and then select OK.

Definitely C I don't want to edit source for 120 tables I would rather do it once.

It's C. The link given states this explicitly: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/connect-data/desktop-analysis-services-tabular-data#to-change-the-server-name-after-initial-connection

hello guys this article (https://www.c-sharpcorner.com/article/how-to-change-data-source-of-existing-report-in-power-bi/)shows how to change data through Query Editor >>Data Source setting as well as through Query editor >> Query Setting >> Source. So both option C and D are justified. But its required least amount of administrative effort so will go for option C.
