Hmm... It would seem as add might actually be correct. If I'm reading the manpage right, if modify is used, then add: or replace: must follow the changetype otherwise if changetype is add, then you can simple just list the items you would want to add? https://www.openldap.org/software//man.cgi?query=LDIF&sektion=5&apropos=0&manpath=OpenLDAP+2.4-Release#CHANGE_RECORDS

You are wrong. You can obvious see "changetype: modify" in the page you mentioned. We can also refer to the following page: Modifying an entry’s attributes is a very common change to make and is made possible by specifying changetype: modify after the DN of the entry. https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-use-ldif-files-to-make-changes-to-an-openldap-system

modify is correct. „Referring to Templates for modifying existing users“ as follows https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_enterprise_linux/8/html/configuring_and_managing_identity_management/using-ldapmodify-to-manage-idm-users-externally_configuring-and-managing-idm

The question uses the word "alteration" which could also mean modify. For me the answer is "modify"
