Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is a commonly used protocol for managing secure data transmission on the Internet. It provides a secure channel between two machines operating over the internet or an internal network. SSL has been the standard for many years, providing encryption of data in transit. Although SSL has largely been replaced by Transport Layer Security (TLS) due to security improvements, SSL is still widely recognized as the basis for secure data transmission.
