Question 57

Which of the following factors would increase the confidence level in a variables sampling plan?

I. A larger sample size.

II. A stratified sample.

III. A larger standard deviation.

    Correct Answer: A

A larger sample size increases the confidence level because it provides more data points, which typically leads to more reliable estimates. A stratified sample increases confidence by ensuring that different segments of the population are adequately represented, which can lead to more precise and accurate results. A larger standard deviation, however, indicates more variability in the data, which generally reduces confidence levels rather than increasing them.

Discussion
wiseminosseOption: A

Larger sample size -> more significant sample -> higher confidence level (i.e. 90->95%) Divide population by strata -> minor standard deviation on each stratum -> need less samples to describe population or can describe better the population with the same sample size -> higher confidence level

Why not D?? In a variable sampling. As std deviation increases, sample size increases. And as sample size increases confidence level increases.

I was of the same opinion. But according to the correct answer (A), variability does not increase the level of confidence, but it indicates the need to increase the level of confidence.
