CIPP-US Exam - Question 107

Sarah lives in San Francisco, California. Based on a dramatic increase in unsolicited commercial emails, Sarah believes that a major social media platform with over 50 million users has collected a lot of personal information about her. The company that runs the platform is based in New York and France.

Why is Sarah entitled to ask the social media platform to delete the personal information they have collected about her?

Show Answer
Correct Answer: C

Sarah is a resident of California, and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) entitles her to request the deletion of her personal information collected by companies that meet certain criteria. These criteria include having annual gross revenues over $25 million, buying, receiving, or sharing the personal information of 50,000 or more consumers, households, or devices for commercial purposes, or earning 50% or more of their annual revenues from selling consumers' personal information. Since the social media platform described has over 50 million users, it is likely to fall under the CCPA's scope.

This question is more or less confusing. I think that the best answer is C, but there are important details like is this company falling under the CCPA regime - we don't know from the explanation of the situation.
