The disclosure was considered a gross invasion of his privacy Videotape service providers are prohibited from disclosing customer personal information unless an enumerated exception applies. The Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA) was passed in 1988,back in the days when customers still went to video stores to rent movies to watch at home. The VPPA was designed to project an individual's video rental or purchase history from potentially embarrassing disclosure.
