HPE6-A45 Exam - Question 20

Refer to the exhibits.

Exhibit 1 -

Exhibit 2 -

Switch-1 and Switch-2 are configured to provide VRRP in VLAN 2. The default gateway for VLAN 2 is set to the VRRP virtual IP. Client-1 in VLAN 2 cannot ping its default gateway.

Based on the exhibits, what can administrators determine?

Show Answer
Correct Answer: D

The expected behavior in this setup is that the VRRP virtual IP should not respond to ping requests by default. However, the master router (Switch-1) will respond to ARP requests for the virtual IP address and can route traffic successfully for Client-1. This setup allows for redundancy without the concern that both switches may respond to the same ping request, causing confusion. Therefore, Client-1's inability to ping the default gateway is normal, and traffic should still be routed properly by Switch-1.

Correct answer D. When you are using the setup without an owner, by default, not even the Master will respond to pings for the virtual address. The Master will respond to ARP requests for the virtual IP addresses and route traffic successfully, but it will not respond to pings.

D. By default, VIP does not reply to pings. It can be useful to set the VIP (aka default gateway in common topologies) to respond to pings. "router vrrp virtual-ip-ping"
