An LTM Specialist is investigating reports that users are unable to perform some commands through an FTP virtual server. The users are receiving the FTP error
"500 Illegal PORT command." The virtual server is configured to SNAT using automap. The LTM Specialist performs a capture on the server side of the LTM device.
Why is the server returning this error?
The server is returning the '500 Illegal PORT command' error because the active IP address used in the PORT command is not valid. The PORT command specifies the IP address and port that the client will use for the data connection in active mode FTP. In this capture, it seems that there is a misconfiguration or an issue with the IP address being used in the PORT command, causing the server to reject it as illegal.
