Question 40

Scenario: A Citrix Engineer is designing a Provisioning Services environment based on the following environmental factors:

-A large number of target devices are spread over multiple subnets.

-The subnets include non-Provisioning Services machines that rely on booting over the network

-A security mandate prohibits the use of TFTP.

-The XenDesktop Setup Wizard is used to create the target devices.

Which Provisioning Services boot method is appropriate for the target devices?

    Correct Answer: A

Given the scenario, where a large number of target devices are spread over multiple subnets, non-Provisioning Services machines rely on booting over the network, and a security mandate prohibits the use of TFTP, the appropriate Provisioning Services boot method is BDM Disk Partition. This method allows creating and assigning a small BDM hard disk partition that will be attached to the virtual machine as a separate virtual disk. This partition already contains all the necessary PVS drivers and does not require PXE, TFTP, or DHCP options for booting.

Discussion
thedelphOption: A

As of XenDesktop version 7.x, when using XenDesktop setup wizard we can create and assign a small BDM hard disk partition, which will be attached to the virtual machine as a separate virtual disk. Using this method the above mentioned two-stage approach is no longer needed because partition already contains all the PVS drivers. This way all the information needed will be directly available without the need of PXE,TFTP & DHCP. https://support.citrix.com/article/CTX227725
