DCACI Exam - Question 197

Which two external entities are referenced by an AEP? (Choose two.)

Show Answer
Correct Answer: AC

An attachable entity profile (AEP) in Cisco ACI is used to associate devices with the physical network infrastructure. The two external entities that an AEP typically references are Layer 3 domains, which include routers and Layer 3 networks, and VMM (Virtual Machine Manager) domains, which manage virtual machines. The AEP is used to define which VLANs will be permitted on interfaces, thus supporting both Layer 3 domains and VMM domains in connecting virtualized and non-virtualized environments carefully.

AC is correct.

Based on the Cisco documentation referenced above, why would it not be hypervisor and layer 3 domain?

L3 Domain and VMM Domain. AEP is the GLUE between the domain and VLAN Pools. An attachable access entity profile (AAEP) associates a VMM domain with the physical network infrastructure where the vSphere hosts are connected. The AAEP defines which VLANs will be permitted on a host-facing interface. When a domain is mapped to an endpoint group, the AAEP validates that the VLAN can be deployed on certain interfaces. An AAEP is a network interface template that enables the deployment of VM controller policies on a large set of leaf switch ports. An AAEP specifies which switches and ports are available and how they are configured. The AAEP can be created on-the-fly during the creation of the VMM domain itself.

The ACI fabric provides multiple attachment points that connect through leaf ports to various external entities such as bare metal servers, virtual machine hypervisors, Layer 2 switches (for example, the Cisco UCS fabric interconnect), or Layer 3 routers (for example Cisco Nexus 7000 Series switches). These attachment points can be physical ports, FEX ports, port channels, or a virtual port channel (vPC) on leaf switches.

Attachable Entity Profile The ACI fabric provides multiple attachment points that connect through leaf ports to various external entities such as bare metal servers, virtual machine hypervisors, Layer 2 switches (for example, the Cisco UCS fabric interconnect), or Layer 3 routers (for example Cisco Nexus 7000 Series switches). These attachment points can be physical ports, FEX ports, port channels, or a virtual port channel (vPC) on leaf switches. An Attachable Entity Profile (AEP) represents a group of external entities with similar infrastructure policy requirements. The infrastructure policies consist of physical interface policies that configure various protocol options, such as Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP), Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP), or Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP). An AEP is required to deploy VLAN pools on leaf switches. Encapsulation blocks (and associated VLANs) are reusable across leaf switches. An AEP implicitly provides the scope of the VLAN pool to the physical infrastructure.

While hypervisors are part of a VMM domain, they are not directly referenced by an AEP. Instead, the VMM domain itself is mapped to the AEP.

It's about what external entities are referenced, not what kind of dommain you can configure, so C is incorrect.
