In an MPLS L3VPN topology, the provider (P) routers are primarily responsible for providing connectivity between the provider edge (PE) devices by using MPLS switching. P routers do not maintain VPN routing information; they simply switch MPLS packets based on their labels. This allows different VPNs to coexist on the same provider network without interfering with each other.
