A work breakdown structure (WBS) is a hierarchical decomposition of the total scope of work to accomplish the project objectives and create the deliverables. It organizes and defines the total scope of the project, and each descending level represents an increasingly detailed definition of what project work is. A WBS is reflective of the project organizational structure, as it maps out all tasks and responsibilities within the framework of the project's structure.
