On EOS 4.13.1F, which of the following statements are true in regards to Arista’s Tap Aggregation feature? (Select two)

Show Answer
Correct Answer: BC

In Arista’s Tap Aggregation feature, tap ports are configured to receive traffic only, meaning they are receive only, while tool ports are designed to send traffic only, primarily to monitoring tools. Therefore, the correct statements are that tap ports are receive only and tool ports are send only.

Now that TAP ports are configured, the tool ports must be configured to receive the appropriate traffic.

From AristaWarrior2 Ports on the switch can now be placed into one of two modes: tap or tool: tap A tap port is a port connected to either a tap device or a monitor port on a switch (or any other device delivering packets destined for a sniffer or analyzer). A tap port receives traffic. tool A tool port is one to which a sniffer or analyzer is usually connected. This is not always the case, as the destination may be another tap aggregation device, as you’ll see later in this chapter. A tool port sends traffic. BC is correct.

Answer B and C Ethernet and port channel interfaces are configured as tap and tool ports to support tap aggregation. • Tap ports: A tap port is an interface that receives a data stream that two network ports exchange. Tap ports prohibit egress traffic. MAC learning is disabled. All control plane interaction is prevented. Traps for inbound traffic are disabled. Tap ports are in STP forwarding mode. • Tool ports: A tool port is an interface that replicates data streams received by one or more tap ports. Tool ports connect to devices that process the monitored data streams. Tool ports prohibit ingress traffic. MAC learning is disabled. All control plane interaction is prevented. Tool ports are in STP forwarding mode.

The functionality of the tap port is to receive traffic from a device usually in the production network and egress it out of the respective number of tool ports attached to the monitoring tool. Hence, tap ports are receive-only(Rx) and tool ports are send-only(Tx). Packet flow: Production Network ------->Tap(RX)[Arista TapAgg Switch]Tool(Tx)------> Monitoring Tool B and C is Correct
