Question 121

A project manager is managing a project that is halfway through its execution phase, and the quality standards of the deliverables were formally accepted.

However, a government agency has recently introduced new standards that may significantly impact the project. The deliverables must be changed to align with the new quality standards.

What should the project manager do?

    Correct Answer: D

When new standards are introduced by a government agency that may significantly impact the project, the first step for a project manager is to evaluate the impact these new regulations will have on the project. This involves understanding how the new standards affect the scope, schedule, costs, and quality of the deliverables. Once the evaluation is complete and the impact is understood, the project manager should submit a change request to formally update the project plans and processes to align with the new quality standards. This ensures that all changes are documented and approved through the proper channels, maintaining project governance and compliance with the new regulations.

Discussion
CivilGuruOption: B

This question is the trickiest of the tricky. I've been staring at if for 15 minutes trying to determine how they arrived at B and not D. The question states that the deliverables must change to align with the new standards which means that the project will be impacted and the impact must be evaluated so one would think that D would be the sensible answer. However, the new standards don't necessarily apply to just the deliverables. It may apply to the activities. For example, a new standard procedure is developed for monitoring groundwater. Option B talks about determining if project activities followed the standards. If the team didn't follow the new standard procedure for monitoring groundwater, then the activities need to be completed again following the new procedure. This is part of evaluating the impact to the project and thus would come first and be input into Option D. As a result, Option B is the correct answer.

Option D also says evaluate impact. in that why we go for optoin B. As per option D, first evaluate the impact and then go for CR

Temi2023Option: D

Even if I see this in my exam, I will still choose D because I can't make any sense out of B, and the fact that PMI said it is correct doesn't make it RIGHT. Everything is all about perspective!

TuanitOption: D

should be D

Does anybody know why is not here some links to the pmbok with right explanation or another explanationof the right answer? This is a problem of many individual tests.

WhiteTable

Agree. Would be good if explanation comes from the context of PMBOK

RV1208Option: B

B. Half work is already done means some deliverables were already completed. So first task is to check the delivered deliverable to what extend they match the standard. Then to check the impact on remaining portion of project and accordingly submit change request.

WhiteTable

Yes agree but the accepted deliverables were completed using approved version of Project Management Plan, which is before the new regulations being implemented. Means, it should be by the client team to check on the compliances requirements.

Mamoonpk

that is the reason, evaluate the impact and raise change request i dont know how B is right answer

GabMonterey

This make sense

cross_dnOption: D

D is right

ompkOption: D

After careful study and reading multiple articles of "Change management" and "Risk management" option D is right. Here are my views This question has three statements i. The "deliverable quality standards" first first approved and it was on half way through the execution phase, which means its not yet completed. ii. The govt agency put on new regulations which "MAY" impact the project. Please note that it is an identified risk but has not occurred yet. iii. The deliverable "must be changed" to align with the new quality standards. so it means the "CHANGE" has to be happened. As a project manager, when you know that the new risk( not happened yet) could impact and at the same time needs the deliverable to be "changed" so what you gonna do?

mdkhassanOption: D

Option B suggests setting up structured, independent processes to determine if project activities followed the standards. While it is important to ensure compliance with the new standards, setting up independent processes may not be the most efficient approach. Instead, aligning the deliverables with the new quality standards through a change request is a more appropriate action.

Bruce_LiuOption: D
