A project with a hard timeline is starting its first iteration out of six. The project team is lacking the necessary skills to execute.
What should the project manager do?
When a project team lacks the necessary skills to execute the project, the most effective solution is to add a subject matter expert (SME) to the project team. This approach directly addresses the skill gap by providing the required expertise, thereby helping the team to meet the hard timeline. Allowing the team to proceed without addressing the skill gap will likely result in delays and reduced quality, which is not advisable given the hard timeline.
A should be the correct one..
I agree. A should be the correct answer
Why not D?
D is the right answer. A is wrong because you cant expand or reduce the project team without the required formal approvals. The outcome of D will however likely end up with A.
Add a subject matter expert (SME) to the project team. is a result of Stakeholders Consensus. So stakeholder first, cost/risk consideration, then adding a SME. Not just cause Project Manager "Decided"
When a project team lacks the necessary skills to execute a project with a hard timeline, the project manager should take action to address this skill gap effectively. Option A is the most appropriate response: A. Add a subject matter expert (SME) to the project team.
A- Expert judgement
PMBOK 7th page 40. A To those who answered D? What exactly will be your risk mitigation? Bring in an SME?
Does the Agile Methogology based on PM take the decisions by himself or Agile is based in team collaboration and team decision? According team decition on Agile Methods I will go with D, PM is a facilitator and stakeholders must decide based on discussion
Adding a SME would bridge the gap and help the team to hit the hard timeline in my opinion.
A. Add a subject matter expert (SME) to the project team
D. Invite stakeholders to discuss a mitigation plan to finish on time. Must discuss first the best solution with the stakeholders, training, SME or any other solution
It's A
The team needs to figure out what solution/mitigation plan would be the best - training, SME etc.
First meeting with stakeholder.
Just had a discussion about familiar situation with a project member. Team member indicates that SME is needed but Project ignores. and the answer C would lead to a work that has to be redone several times in this case, increased risks of future issues. answer A would be most efficient one if looking from quality and time perspective(having in mind that everyone would be sharing their knowledge) off course if team takes full responsibility maybe answer C is correct, but....
Initially went with A, but after reading back, I understand why its C. It's still the first Iteration. Let the team get adjusted and gather more understanding and data.
When a project team lacks the necessary skills to execute a project, adding a subject matter expert (SME) to the team is a proactive step to address the skill gap. The SME can contribute specialized knowledge and expertise, helping the team overcome challenges and ensuring the project progresses successfully. This is a practical approach to enhance the team's capabilities and increase the likelihood of meeting the project timeline.
D is the answer
Answer D before B
I mean before A
